Ray Benavides

BEEVILLE – Ray Benavides, 65, passed away on March 9, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1958, in Beeville, Texas to Hilario and Susie (Estrada) Benavidez.

     He is preceded in death by his parents, Hilario, and Susie Benavidez; his grandmother, Victoria Benavidez and a brother-in-law, James A. Harrison.

     Ray graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1977 and graduated from Bee County College where he obtained an Associates of Applied Science Degree. He worked as a Circulation Specialist at Coastal Bend College for 43 years. He sat on the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library Board of Directors for 20 years and served as a member of Fiesta Bee County/Ballet Folklorico for 30 years.

     To know him was to love him. If he wasn’t at the library, he was spending time at his sister Olga’s home. He cherished his time with family and close friends. He always went out of his way to help someone in need.

     Left to mourn his passing are his siblings, Larry Benavidez of Beeville, Ram Benavidez of Houston, Olga Harrison of Beeville, Delia Benavidez of Houston, and Yolanda Garcia of Beeville. Ray is also survived by five nieces and seven nephews that he cherished, Michael Benavidez of Beeville, Susie Harrison of Conroe, Sarah Benavidez of Beeville, Samantha Benavidez of Beeville, Sonia Guerra of San Antonio, Bryan Garcia of Beeville, Eric Garcia of Corpus Christi, Ashley Herrera of Houston, Johnny Herrera of Houston, Baby Larry Puente of Houston, Jacob Benavidez of Beeville, and Jonathan Benavidez of Beeville and a great niece, Gianna Benavidez.

     A visitation will be held at 4 pm on Wednesday, March 20, at Oak Park Memorial Chapel, with a rosary following at 7 pm with Deacon Roger Rosenbaum reciting.
